Sealant Placement - Indianapolis IN
Sealant Placement permanent teeth have large grooves on the occlusal, or biting surface of the tooth. This area is one of the easiest places for cavities to form. At Prime Smile, we offer sealants to protect these areas from forming decay. A sealant is a thin layer of material that is applied directly to the occlusal surface of the molar and premolar teeth.
Sealants are quick and easy to place.
First a cleaning agent is applied to the occlusal surface of the tooth. After rinsing the tooth off and keeping a dry surface, the sealant material flows into the grooves, forming a protective layer against bacteria. A bright white curing light dries the material on the occlusal surface and is checked at each six month visit. Daily brushing and flossing will ensure the sealant remains on the tooth for full protection. Chewing on ice and eating sticky candy can pull the material off of the tooth, so these actions should be avoided.
